Music is the soundtrack to his life, and he wants to produce yours.
Dave Deguire, 25, of St. Catharines, is sharing his knowledge of music laying down personal tracks hoping to help musicians record their music. “It gives me the ability to create my own music as well as record other bands,” says Deguire. “This also gives me a chance to put my own perspective or twist on [others’] music as well.”
In 2008 Deguire opened A Full Plate Production after he and members of the St. Catharines based-band The Storytellers parted ways. “He is always trying to expand and foster the growth of his studio,” says a friend Jesse Howell. Deguire says the name of the company comes from when he has an artist in his studio, or someone interested in recording there.
He wants them to be aware he is capable of going above and beyond to cater to the artist’s needs. “I don’t just write music,” says Deguire. “I also videotape the sessions with the artist for my YouTube channel as well as theirs.” “If they need guitar written for them, I can do that. Bass, drums I can do that too. I can give them advice or even help write songs. Hence the full plate.”
Since he was a teenager, music has been his passion and his main creative outlet. “He has an excellent sense of what sounds good or what is catchy,” says Howell. “He is very meticulous when it comes to perfection, which is a good thing when writing good music.” For as long as he can remember, music is all that he has done and shown a strong interest in. He says he is versatile and has a good ear for what may sound good.
“If there is one thing that really stands out to me about Dave it is that he is extremely creative, and he can write music that is very unique, which is hard to find today,” says friend Kyle Johnson. Johnson has had the pleasure of recording in his friend’s studio and says their work together has turned out “better than” he expected. “He is always working on new songs, or spending time in his studio to gain more knowledge on how to make better recordings.
Not only does he do this but he takes the time to post tutorials on the Internet to help others learn about using certain programs,” says Johnson. Deguire will create a sound that is uniquely his. He then shares the process in a step-by-step guide of the process to help others who have the same interest in how to do it. His immense knowledge of music, instruments and producing has all been self-taught.
With each day he masters his craft more, growing stronger in his ability to help others release their music. “Once he sets his mind on a goal he does everything in his power to do it,” says Deguire’s girlfriend Kathleen Winstanley.
“He is constantly researching new programs and figuring out how to use them inside and out and which ones would be best for him. He is truly very talented.”
Deguire says he has had the pleasure of working with many local talents, including Through These Words and Escaping Rose Heaven. He says he hopes one day his studio will be involved with bigger studios. “I don’t want to tell people to come to my studio; I want to them to want to come to my studio,” says Deguire.
