By MAZIE BISHOP Staff Writer It’s hard to put a finger on the genre exactly, but Xprime, a four-piece band originally from Niagara Falls and the Welland area, is somewhere between pop and classic rock mixed with modern Duwop and is sure to please. Xprime, which consists of Gab Sid on keys and guitar, Steph Mercier on guitar, Neil Carson on bass, Phil on percussions and all of them sharing the vocal role, came together in 2009 and released its first EP, Here We Are, in 2012. Its first full-length record, The Album, released on March 8 is packed with energy and full of incredible harmonies and irresistible hooks. The album starts off with Inspiration, an energetic song about getting into the swing of things and holding onto the inspiration when it comes. The gang vocals in the chorus adds that feel good Xprime vibe one can usually only get from going to one of its shows, but in the comfort of your own home, the car on the way to work, or basically anywhere, this versatile album can be played. The leading single of The Album is a song called Early to the Sun and it is accompanied by a hilarious DIY music video that can brighten the darkest of days. This song’s dynamic guitar solos and up-beat melodies set a great tone for the album and are bound to get your toes tapping. The instrumental flows perfectly with the lyrics and vocals, which come down to a whisper in the end that will send chills down anyone’s spine. It’s So Easy is the second to last song on the album and its diverse build up in the beginning contrasts beautifully with the catchy and unforgettable guitar riff we hear before the elegant and charming group vocal verses, which lead us to the soulful chorus that you can’t help but sing along to. Xprime’s The Album is the only recorded media that can possibly compete with one of the band’s high-energy live shows, and after listening to this record, everyone’s next stop will be the band’s website, www.xprime.ca, to check out tour dates for this spring.
